Home: Phoenix, AZ.  Age: 37.  Birthplace: Abilene, TX.  Profession: Human resources, healthcare.  Organization: Affiliated Dermatology.  Title: Director of Human Resources.  Pronouns: She/Her/Hers.  Significant other: My husband, Art Ketterhagen.  Alma mater: Grand Canyon University.

Recent recognition: An employee and I were chatting about motherhood and being a working mom.  She stated she’s never had the pleasure of such an inspiring and friendly HR director and that my hard work doesn’t go unnoticed.  Recent professional development: I just started my MBA program at Southern New Hampshire University.  Latest accomplishment: I recently became a certified Mental Health First Aid Responder.  This is important to me as I want to be able to properly support someone in a moment of crisis.  Latest contribution to others: I have spent the past 12 months developing an in-depth training program for team leads and management team members.  This includes a 16-module program that focuses on personal leadership development and growth.  Last book read: The Leadership Challenge, by James Kouzes and Barry Posner.

Personality profile: INTJ, determined, compassionate.  What one word would your closest friend use to describe you? Stubborn.  What is your greatest joy? My family.  Raising tiny humans is an adventure and my little family is my happy place.  What is your favorite place (or way) to spend money? Amazon, hands down.  What is at the top of your bucket list? Italy, with my husband.  What ingredient is essential to your perfect vacation? No electronics!  To disconnect completely is the dream.  And a good book.

What was your first paying job? At Panera Bread, as a cashier.  What movie have you repeatedly watched? Top Gun.  What’s prominently featured on your home or office wall? A hand-painted sign by a dear friend with a quote that reads, “Do no fear failure but be terrified of regret - Deshauna Barber”.  Besides your parents, who has had the greatest influence on your life? My Aunt Sue.  She is a nurse, my original dream career, and while growing in her profession, she raised her triplet babies.  The perfect combination of motherhood and success.  What is your favorite app? TikTok.  It’s both entertaining and educational.  I’ve learned so many fun life hacks.  What world event has had the greatest influence on your life? Without a doubt, COVID.  The most significant influence, as a mother, as a professional and as a human.

What change would you like to see in the world?

Accessibility to education.

What widely held belief do you reject? The Golden Rule.  We should treat others as they want to be treated, not as we want to be treated.  What mega-trend most concerns you? Climate change and the impact it will have on future generations.

What title would you choose for the movie about your life? Oddly Enough.  As a kid, what did you first want to be when you grew up? A librarian.  I still think it’s an amazing career.  After your loved ones, what object would you first save from your burning home? The memory boxes I’ve filled with things for my children.  How would you choose to spend tomorrow, if you knew it was your last day on earth? At the lake, with my husband and kids, just enjoying each other’s company and reveling in the peace that comes with nature.  What advice would you give your younger self? Live your life intentionally.

Personal mission: To inspire and encourage others to find the possibilities.  Personal motto: Perception is key.
