Current project: Refining the business model of Discipline Advisors.  Latest accomplishment: Alongside my wife, Christine, I successfully navigated a significant business milestone by acquiring our own broker-dealer.  What’s been your big (or biggest leap)? Six or seven years ago, Christine and I decided to buy our own broker dealer.  Hobbies: Hunting, studying history, particularly the Old West and continuously learning about investment strategies.  Recent travel or adventure: A big game hunting trip up in the Northwest Territories, about a hundred miles from the Arctic Circle.  Recently viewed and recommended: Any old war movies; Lonesome Dove, Yellowstone, 1883.  Recent unique acquisition: A broker-dealer.

Personality profile: Insightful, ethical, resilient, reflective, loyal, passionate, empathetic, humble, family oriented.  What one word would your closest friend use to describe you? Disciplined. Moral compass: I trust my gut.  What word or phrase do you use far too often? It’s not about what you make. It’s about what you keep.  What is your favorite place (or way) to spend money? Hunting trips.  What is at the top of your bucket list? Working on my Super Slam currently.  What is your go-to workout? Hiking and walking at my ranch.  What ingredient is essential to your perfect vacation? My wife, my kids, and good friends.

What was your favorite college course? Finance, of course!  What book have you repeatedly read? Yellowstone and Lonesome Dove.  What’s the best advice you received growing up? If your word's no good, you're no good.  What modern technology innovation do you most appreciate? I’m a pilot, so I love aircraft and anything aviation related.  What is your go-to source of creative inspiration? Sitting on my back porch and watch wildlife.  What personal circumstance has had the greatest influence on your life? When I was really young, my brother, Cass, passed away at age 34.  Our conversations changed my life for the better and put life in perspective.

What message do you want to send out into the world?

It comes down to communication skills. There’s an old saying: People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.

What widely held belief do you reject? Don’t be hard on yourself.  I believe it’s appropriate to be hard on yourself, and disciplined.  What mega-trend most excites you? There are always things that excite me, but they’re always different and one person’s challenge can be another’s opportunity.

What title would you choose for the movie about your life? Servant Heart.  What actor would you choose to play you in the movie about your life? Kevin Costner.  Who would you like to spend an evening with, in heaven? My brother Cass.  What advice would you give your younger self? Be a little bit more patient with getting to know people of influence and not just taking their word.
